Rats are def. more affectionate and intelligent than mice. The other thing to be warned about with mice, is that they are the dirtiest and stinkiest of rodents. The trouble is, they have no bladder control whatsoever, so as they are running around they tend to wee all over the place. So you can't really let them out to play around your living room the way you can with a rat, cos it is too gross!
Rats are such lovely pets; I would stick with those if I were you. I would keep them myself, but the lifespan just tends to be so short that they break my heart all the time. So I keep ferrets instead, as they are awesome characters too.Are mice as affectionate as rats?
What a cute sentiment from the Asker. What an awesome Best Answer, except that in the Rat Fancy Community we say of our male rats that they don't have any bladder control with their need for scent marking.

I've never kept mice, but I've heard they're not as friendly as rats, and they also escape more easily.
l think rats make better pets then mice and l do think they are more affectionate. they are fun pets. a lot of people do not like them but l kind of like them. sometimes they rather be with you then another rat.
I think rats are much more intelligent than mice. As long as you feed them plenty they are affectionate too.
With my experiences that i had with hampsters, rats and mice...rats are the most socialable...it seems the smaller the rodent is the less socialable it is....
They aren't as friendly simply because they are as social as rats.
A mouse will bite you if it doesnt want to be bothered, while a rat will just walk away.
