The only issue with feeding rats yogurt is the fact that it is dairy, and rats are lactose intolerant. Feeding dairy can cause diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration. Some rats are fine with a little bit of dairy, while others will have stomach issues. If you decide to feed dairy just watch to make sure it is not causing stomach problems, and if it does stop feeding it.
A far better option would be soy yogurt. Although not entirely proven, it has been suggested that the estrogen in the soy can help prevent mammary tumors in females. It is dairy fee and offers the same things as regular yogurt.
My rat is currently eating a small spoonful of soy yogurt a day b/c he is on antibiotics. Antibiotics often kill good bacteria, and the probiotics in the soy yogurt counteract that.Is yogurt good for rats? If so, what kinds are good or bad?
