Any suggestions? My rats are chewing through their cage...?

About 4 months ago I got my two girl rats. I've noticed that they are chewing holes in the bottom part of their cage (the bottom part is plastic, the upper part is wire). Any suggestions on how to stop them from doing this? I really don't want to have to be replacing cages every 6 months...Any suggestions? My rats are chewing through their cage...?
1. First off keep an eye out- my girls chewed through their cage corner in one night.





2. There are only temporary solutions. The real answer is to get a Metal bottomed cage. I suggest http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js鈥?/a> I have one similar and it is great. I learned the hard way 2 times.





3. Temporary solutions until you get a good cage





~ Duck tape


~ Take a cheap Tupperware container and tape it to the outside covering the hole


~ Use epoxy to fill in the hole and make sure there are no rats in the cage while it dries

If given enough time a rat can chew through concrete, it they want to get through the plastic pan they will. There is nothing you can do to stop it. The best you can do is buy a cage with a drop in metal pan in the bottom. I have had friends that have used the sour apple spray people use to break puppies from chewing... my rats however, seem to find it delicious! Bottom line is if you have chewers be prepared to replace cage pans, hidey houses and hammocks...often.
how many chew toys do u have in there, if u only have a few, buy some more. if u have a bunch, i would coat them in peanut butter or something a rat would like. and then if that didnt work, maybe theyre just reall bored. how much time do u spend with them? spend some more time then! lol, I'm so bored rigt now because I'm just trying to get my parents to let me have a rat. everytime I'm in the car or watching TV i picture a little rat climbing over my lap......oh hi buster!! whos my good rat? you are! you are!.....im sorry u had to hear that...
