Curious. Thanks!Anyone who's bred rats or loves rats?
No GOOD breeder would sell you a male and a female together.Anyone who's bred rats or loves rats?
While some of the answers are right, spot on, some are dead wrong....
I have a small Rattery, and I would not recommend breeding unless you have potential homes lined up before hand, unless you are prepared to take care of all of the kittens after they are weaned.
I do not adopt out any kittens to anyone intending to breed. I in fact only adopt out in same sex pairs.
You can put males in the same cage together, in fact rats are highly social animals, and love to have cage mates. I currently have three adultt males housed wweanling'sg'ss and one juvenile from another breeder, squabbles break out every once in a while, but nothing serious.
I would NOT breed your pets if I were you, especially since they sound as if they are from the same litter, rat can have up to 26 kittens in one litter, with all surviving, or sibling bred animals often have a high number of newborn mortality. Please consider that before you go ahead with these plans.
Well, while your female is pregnant the male can be in the cage with her, he would just have to be removed once the babies are born, a female can get pregnant again within 24 hours of giving birth! The babies are weaned at about 4 weeks or so which would be a while for Dad to wait for a cage mate. I would just make sure you are showing Dad tons of extra attention while he is alone if this is what you plan to do. I don't think this is the best idea but if you play it right things should work out ok.
I know plenty of people who have done so, the mother and daughter will be easier but the dad and son will have to go through serious intro stuff. It seems like a very logical idea!
the male will fight, but the female will be just fine w/ another girl....
hmm im not sure.

males will most likely fight so you should give the males away and a few females and keep 2 or 4 females.
