I hope you intend to get your rat a same sex friend, as rats are extremely social animals and it really isn't fair to keep them alone. How do i clean my pet rats cage??????
I never had a pet rat, but I'm pretty sure that you do it this way:
1) put your pet rat in a safe clean place with a few air holes (like a little Kritter Keeper plastic cage or a rat exercise ball).
2) Take out all the food containers and water bottles and clean them. Take out the litter.
3) If you have to, take apart the cage so you can clean it with hot soapy water (Dawn dish detergent works well). Scrub as necessary.
4) Rinse many times completely and dry the cage.
5) Put it all back together with fresh bedding food and water.
6) Put your rat back in there. How do i clean my pet rats cage??????
I put my rats in a kritter box thing, it has air holes and all that, I put treats in there so they dont get freaked out. I take a dustpan and use it to scoop out all the bedding and then I use a spray bottle I have with just water and spray the bottom of the cage and wipe it down with a rag. I do my best to get any thing off of the stories in the cage as well. So I just use water, but there are things you can use for a stinky or messy cage. Good luck.
Ye ole soap and hot water and a sponge only for her cage. Chemicals can linger they are bad for you and your pet. They are to risky to exposed to anyone for that matter. Scoop out the pooh and scrub out the pee put fresh bedding down. You want to tackle to water bottle alot so what you need is a bottle brush and get rid of that slimy build up which is bacteria building on the inside of the water bottle. And the dish the same thing but just give it a good scrub down no chemicals just a paper towel and some hot water. I find that a Brand called Care fresh litter works the best. Theres just no way around cleaning cages of any type someones gotta do it. Yep the owner of that pet you agreed to take care of :) so Just keep a schedule when you know you have time to clean it. Dont skip cause it will only create more work for you. stinky!
I've been using Clean Works All-Purpose Cleaner spray by Clorox to clean all of my pets' areas, including my rat cage...smells good and seems to be quite gentle, and no harsh ingredients that the critters can get sick off of. It's very reasonably priced.
wipe it with a sponge
