Does Petsmart interact with their rats?

NO MEAN ANSWERS ABOUT PETSMART! When I got my rats 2 years ago, a really nice lady helped me and she had rats. She was telling me which rats in the litter at Petsmart were sweet and which were shy. Do all Petsmarts interact with their rats like that? are they trained to? thanks!Does Petsmart interact with their rats?
no. I've had pet rats for years. I went to petsmart, and the guy that helped me said they only feed and clean the cages. Thats it. I bought 2 that we housed together and they did great. Sadly, they both passed, but they got along great, and if you have experience with them it doesnt take long to train them. Good Luck!Does Petsmart interact with their rats?
Hi there!

No, most pet stores don't care about the animals, but some employees do. Either that woman was a good sales person, trying to sell the rats, or she really does love the animals and believe it is good for the animals to have interaction. When I got my guinea pigs, the sales person was very nice and seems like he knew a lot, but he lied or didn't know about the ages of the guinea pigs. The so called 9 month guinea pigs was at least a couple years old! (Later, I had to return them because they had mites and ringworm! - then I adopted 2 three year old piggies =P)

So to answer your question once again, it depends on the store and the employee responsible for the small animals section. Some employees care about the animals and do interact with them to give them the best life possible, while some couldn't care less.

Hope this helped~
As with all pet stores it really depends on the individual store. Remember, pet stores do not hire professionals to work the floor, these employees are commonly just random people off the street that are given directions on what they have to do to clean and feed the animals and small tidbits of information that people may need to know. You will rarely ever find a pet store that has someone who knows what they're doing and actually cares for the animals properly.

But no, people are not usually trained for that kind of thing. Most pet store owners who think they know anything about animals often know so little it's laughable. I've gone to big chain pet stores to look for food and have had people try to sell me some absolute crap when I came looking for one specific thing and told them what I was looking for because it was 'what they feed their animals'. Many cat/dog owners feed Science Diet, Iams, Purina, etc. and I wouldn't feed that crap to my animals if I was desperate, they would eat random food out of my fridge before that food.
