well educate meI want to breed my rats and need in depth information?
Please, please, please, I beg of you, reconsider!!!
There are too many homeless rats, and too many genetic problems and inbred rats from 'breeders' who are inexperienced for it to be a good idea to breed rats.

Let me guess. You got your rats from a pet shop, figure they have wonderful temperaments and want more of the same, or you just want to breed them to see what happens. Or perhaps you want your kids to see the ';miracle of birth/life/whatever';? Please think again. Your rats are from the pet shop, i.e. you have NO idea of their genetics. You have no idea what their parents, siblings etc. may have had and/or died of. You have no idea if there is biting tendency in your rats' lines. Your rats' parents may have developed mental problems a week after you took your rats home, and you have no idea if that's the case. You have no idea if your rats are closely related or not. Can we say ';inexperienced inbreeding';?
Please read the following: http://www.goosemoose.com/component/opti鈥?/a>
Ideally a buck should not be used for stud until he is at least 6-8 months old as bucks can go through a 'testosterone' phase where they can become aggressive and dominant in their behaviour.
Does will generally not be bred from under 4 months old, and ideally should be bred from before 8 months old, particularly if you are considering a second litter as well.
Study your doe and you will notice that every 5-6 days she is 'in season' - the symptoms of this being arching back when you touch her back near her tail and sometimes waggling the ears as well which is known as lordosis.
You have 2 choices for the actual mating time, either you can leave a buck running with the doe for a few days or even a week or more, or alternatively you can watch your doe and when she shows the symptoms of being in season, put her and the buck in together for a few hours or preferably overnight.

make sure the female is ready by stroking it on the back and she will do a weird movement.then she will get into the mating position.then introduce the male to the female and wait for awhile, but keep an eye on them.if they start to do it leave them for 30 min and wait for two weeks.i think then you will see pinkys.
