Explain in terms of biotic and abiotic factors why is this so. also, what are biotic/abiotic factors anyway? thanksFoxes and rats benefit from moving into highly populated cities. why?
All animals need space to live, a suitable environment, food, water, shelter and the opportunity to reproduce.
Cities offer a lot of waste food and few predators. (biotic factors)
Shelter and water are examples of abiotic factors.
There are nearly several rats per person in New York city (http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/Jane鈥?/a> )
Some of the highest fox population densities (number/area) are in Melbourne, with estimates around 16 per sq Km.
Populations are reduced by harsh abiotic factors, and by competition from/with biotic factors. In cities both seem to be almost negligible.Foxes and rats benefit from moving into highly populated cities. why?
Biotic factors are living factors that effect the ecosystem, abiotic are chemical and non-living factors.
I'm not really sure how to answer the question using that though.
