What do I need to know about them?!?! But the thing I do know is they grow the size of regular rats.I am getting 2 female small Rats really soon!?
they will get bigger but don't get a cage with soft plasic cage mine almost got out so now we have to duct tape the holes.but they are alot of fun i hope i helped.I am getting 2 female small Rats really soon!?
they need a big cage. a cage for 1 guinea pig is to small for 1 rat
they must live in pairs of 2 or more
they must only have aspen or yesterdays new kitty litter or care fresh as bedding
there food dish MUST be full(mine get filled 5 times a day) i know!! scary!!
need a real big water bottle chenge water in the mporning and at night
they can eat just about anything you can but nothing spicy,or hot meats must be cooked no ice burg lettuce no acid foods i.e tomatoes or grapes they can have chocolate but only in moderation they CANNOT have pop or any fizzy drink cause they cannot burp or *fart* but they can have flat pop ONLY in VERY small amounts about every 2 weeks you cannot get a female pregnant unless they are 6 months (they say 4 months but 6 just to be safe no peanut butter they cant produce enough saliva to break it down so they will choke and/or suffocate
they are most like dogs or 3 year old children they require alot of attention atleast 4 hours with human interaction a day
they love soothing music like mozart and stuff like that
if there is anything else you would like to know email me

heres a website that should help you out a lot - http://onemillionrats.com. and a few others - http://dapper.com/au, http://spazrats.tripod.com, http://rmca.org, http://google.com. yeah you know what google is, but it'll help the most!
btw pet stores use the words small, medium and large rats, but they're defining the ages. if you get 2 small female rats then they're probabaly 4 (although they should be older)-8 weeks old.
good luck (:
even though you might not need it now. You should get a big cage with lots of lvls and toys. Baby rats need more food than adults and they also need lots of attention.

They need lots of space! And toys/snacks to keep them busy. Remember to love and play with them often and keep them safe.. Rats tend to be adventurous.
It really would be easier for you (and us) to just type in ';pet rat care'; into Google, and do some reading!
