Recently my garden has been over-run with rats. They are climing into my rabbit cages and eating their food. We are worried that the rabbits are going to get hurt or poisoned. How can we get rid of the rats without killing them? We have tried humane rat traps but caught none. Is there any smell which would deter them? Any ideas would be very helpful, but I must stress that being a vegetarian I wont consider killing them.Natural ways to deter rats?
I am an Animal Lover and vegitarian too!! Get a rescueed cat or two and make sure they are spayed and neutered!!! THey will naturally get rid of the rats and make cute outdoor ';garden decorations'; My cats have never harmed my rabbits so i dont think that will be a problem......... good luck!!!!Natural ways to deter rats?
There is no way to rid yourself of them as long as you have food available for them. It's only going to get worse. They breed prolifically and if you don't eradicate them you will have the health dept. on your doorstep. There is a humane way to kill them and I've used one for years. It's called a Rat Zapper and it electrocutes them. You don't even have to touch the body, just empty it and reload.
Get a small dog, rats are pretty fast and a dog probably wont catch them but will scare them away and keep them at bay.
cats their mere presence chases away rodents
