When i go to the pet store i never see rats .... whats up with that? o_o rats are cool...Can you buy rats in calgary?
Alberta is rat free, and that includes pet rats. (I'd like to be able to have pet rats myself, but that will only happen if I ever leave the province.)

I belive Alberta has had a long traditon of being entirely rat-free, pet or otherwise, unfortunately. It may even be illegal to bring them into the province...
i'm not sure. there might be a family selling one there that you could find online if it's true that it's ';rat free'; if not, you could try checking a pet store when you travel somewhere else. sorry if this doesn't help,you could try a puppy! good luck!
