Well that depends on what the size of your snake is. Also what species of snake do you have? Rats are usually a lot easier %26amp; cheaper to buy if you have a local rat/mouse breeder or you can purchase online from places that sell them frozen. I personally by bulk of anywhere from a few dozen of one size to 500 of another size, but I also have several reptiles of various sizes. Chickens are ok to feed every once in awhile, but it usually is not recommended as a staple diet. I do buy chicks %26amp; quail to offer periodically as a little something different, but most snakes with refuse if it does not look or smell like their normal food source. The best tip to know if you are feeding the apporpriate size is look at your snake, and see the largest part around your snake (the girth), then buy a rat/mouse/chick/quail/guinea pig/rabbit of about the same size, but not larger. After your snake eats you should just see where the food is in the stomache, it should not be too big of a bilge, or it can cause internal damage %26amp;/or reguritation, which either can lead to death or a very ill snake. Hope this info helps you out some. :0)What should i feed my snakes chickens or Rats?
I'd stick to rats unless the snake becomes so large that you'd have to feed a bunch of rats. I know people who feed chicks occasionally, but I've heard that the feces after feeding chicks is very runny and smelly. Most likely to the higher fat content. It's cheaper and easier to feed frozen/thawed rats. They are more easily obtained and there is no benefit to feeding chicks.
