(also if u hav one for sale or free and you live in north carolina)Where's the best place to get rats?
I think petsmart is better them most small pet stores, the best thing to do is find a good breeder or make sure the pet store know alot about the rat, ask lots of questions like how it is, how long have they had it, and things like that, make sure you know the answers to the questions you are going to ask, like care and such.Where's the best place to get rats?
definetely a good breeder :) because then they have healthier rats and they know their genetic background where as pet stores don't know if they're healthy or not. hope that helped :)

make sure the breeder is experienced and knows what they're doing though! :)
a shelter!
First off, do not get one girl rat. Get two girl rats. Rats are extremely social and should not be kept alone lest they get very lonely. Two rats aren't much more difficult to care for than one.

Second, do NOT purchase from a pet store. Pet store animals (including rats) are often sick, undersocialized, and, in the case of females, pregnant. Plus you're supporting the mills and backyard breeders they get their animals from.

I'd recommend rescue or a reputable rat breeder:

Please do more research into rat care first:

Edit: DO NOT get one rat. If you cannot get two, don't get any! How selfish of you. It's downright cruel to keep rats alone. Read more on why rats need to be kept with company:

Human interaction cannot replace same species interaction. You'll have to spend at least four hours daily with your rat and even that isn't really sufficient. Please don't be selfish and sentence your rat to a life alone.
