i always used cat litter on the bottom of the cage, instead of sawdust as its very dusty and rats can have breathing problems, mine always liked a box or tent to sleep in (somewhere to hide) you need a bigger cage than you would think has they are very active and need the space, i had a big 3 storey cage. you can also use shredded tissue paper for bedding they like to be able to chew and climb, they are very intelligent so you need to keep them active and thinking so hide treats every now and then. you need to clean them out at least once a week depending on how many you have.What things do i need for my rats?

has ideas on cages, other sites I have looked at show a lot with wire platforms, I would stay away from that as one of our rats lost a toenail once and we ended up placing wood over the platforms to keep it from happening again.

fancy rat is a great site about cages, toys and food as well has helped me a lot. My rats also love tuna occasionally. I read about it on a site tired it and they loved it.

rats only live for about 3 years :(





guinea pigs usually live for about 5 years :)
you need to clean there cage alot because there respiratory system is sensitive..they like the soft fluffy bedding and those little things that hang on the side of the cage with salt tabs on them to lick lol
