Why do rats lever press for beer? What in beer is reinforcing?

Studies have not been finitely conclusive. It was thought that it may be the calories, but when beer was tested against sucrose solution with the same calories, sucrose was more popular. To test the alcohol, studies tested beer against diluted ethanol (the same strength as the beer) and beer was more popular... In fact, lever pressing for ethanol decreased as the strength increased, so it is likely not solely the 'buzz'. The likely reason rats lever press for beer is a combination of the enjoyment of the taste and the subsequent mini-addiction that occurs. Food and water deprivation also increases their lever pressing. I have included some references, this is Iain McGregor's specialisation...Why do rats lever press for beer? What in beer is reinforcing?
Rats, like cocaine addicts, love the 'instant effects' of just about any sensory kick. Why do rats lever press for beer? What in beer is reinforcing?
They're addicted to the high they feel I would think. Like humans. You know, woozy, drunk, feeling good, lowered inhibitions also? I dunno, they're rats, they're conditioned.
I'd press ANYTHING for Beer.
Rats or Beer it depends on how you interpret the things.
