Male rats can get pretty loud, i think they do it moreso at certain times because of hormonal changes, etc (if they arent fixed). Let them work it out, just as long as there is no blood. No blood, no foul is what I say. They'll get scratches from time to time but hopefully not deep ones. Make sure they have enough room in their cage and hammocks and stuff to get away from each other when they need to. A GREAT place to check out is petshub.com/forums, its a pet forum place and they have a rat section where i often post, it is very educational.

As for the food, you should be feeding lab blocks such as Mazuri or Harlan Teklad. If you can't get this, you can mix their food on your own which i find it better because you can customize it. It's called ';Suebees Rat Mix'; you can find it at http://www.ratsrule.com/diet.html

Make sure you arent feeding them anything with artifical coloring, seeds, or corn, as they can cause health issues and/or choking.

It's also good you're giving them veggies, they need their fresh food as well. The best is romaine lettuce, carrots, etc.

Good luck with your boys :) If you have questions you can email me at jhageman06@yahoo.com

Oh and stay away from nutriphase and kaytee! They have preservatives in them that are shown to cause cancer. Be very wary of any pet store food!!!I just woundering how rough do male rats get my boys from the same litter get quite rough somtimes i wonder if
Well, first off, rats as well as mice are very playful animals. even if they are alone they find some way of entertaining themselves by running around and such. Now that you say they are being ';rough'; this could and most likely is playful dominant wrestling. But if you do notice one of them is bleeding from anywhere, or if there is always one that gets picked on the most, then my suggestion would be to remove the aggressor out of the tank. If bleeding or no bite marks, or hair baldness is noticed i wouldnt be too worried.

- As for food, im not sure where you are from, but the stores petco and petsmart should have a decent rat/mouse food. Don't go with the cheaper is better here. The quality of the food is the difference. I keep feeders for my snakes and feed mine - Kaytee - Supreme Rat and Mouse food. They seem to enjoy this. I also have added some of the Rat treats to this, or even trail mix, and dried fruit added should make them eat better. Veggies, lettuce, and even fruit are really good as well. But they should mainly eat their dry food.
