Dogs with rats and hamsters?

i am a proud owner of 3 rats, and a very proud teddy bear hamster breeder.

i have always been a dog lover, but my last dog i had was a beagle who died a year and a half ago.

so im looking for a dog, what breed should i get?

i dont really want a dog who will continuously try to get at my rats or hamsters. i could leave them in a different room though...

i am a fan of BIG dogs, and i have the room in my house and yard... but i dont know what kind of dog i should get!

help?Dogs with rats and hamsters?
alot of shelters will have a person trained how to do this, to temperment test a dog with any other pet you have..you can call ahead at a shelter to ask if they do this, to be sure they do.Dogs with rats and hamsters?
GET a medium dog like a beagle cause if you put your other pets on a high shelf they cant reach it or a basset hound
Dobermans are good dogs, I have one and she is a big baby. If you do get a dog, try and get a dog that's not quite a puppy, just a little older and take out your rats, and show them to the dog. So the dog can get use to them and then it shouldn't be a problem because they won't be curious and try to bite.
I wouldn't recommend terriers, as they most likely will try to hurt your ';pocket pets'; (I don't like to call them rodents, it makes them sound as though they are nasty animals in street alleys, which they are not). You could get a little companion dog such as a Chihuahua or a Papillion. Although according to the ';encyclopedia of dog breeds'; a Norwich Terrier has a fair amount of friendliness towards other pets. It also says that the Boston Terrier is also very good with other pets.

But of course, you said you like big dogs, so here are a couple:

Dalmations

Collie (Regular, NOT BORDER!)

German Shepard

Old English Sheepdog (Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds says this is a dog very good with other pets)

Shetland Sheepdog (Very Good too)

Those are just a couple
i have a german wire haired pointer n he talks to my rats through thier cage n wags his tail like mad so he's fine with them
